If you ask any Arsenal fan, they’ll probably tell you that their side was lucky to escape Old Trafford with a point.

We know that’s how we feel here at Cannon Towers.

Failing to turn up for the majority of the match, Arsenal registered exactly zero attempts [on or off target] in the first half of a league game for the first time since 2004.

The equaliser, when it came, was the third deflected goal United have conceded in a row. It was a massive slice of fortune but, then, perhaps considering the penalty Mike Dean denied for the blatant shirtpull on Olivier Giroud in the United box, luck had evened itself out.

It’s supposed to do that, you know.

Speaking after the match, the United manager refused to rue his side’s bad luck.

He said  “You can say that we are unlucky because it is the third goal in a row that is deflected and falls in our net but I have said to our players that it is not unlucky because you have to force your luck. We were one hour better than our opponents.

“I have said Arsenal is maybe the best team but Chelsea can finish the game and Arsenal can’t and we need to do that.”

Speaking before the match, LvG had said that Arsenal were the best side in the Premier League but they lacked the ability to kill teams.

He isn’t wrong.

Playing like they did on Sunday, I’m just glad they managed to survive themselves.
