Just when you thought the coast was clear, here come the Julian Draxler to Arsenal rumours again.

For the last couple of seasons, Arsenal have been linked to German winger and were even thought to have made a bid at one point.

Thought to have the potential to become one of the best, the youngster attracted attention from all over the world, especially Europe.

However, the Schalke wonderkid hit a bad spell, was sidelined with a serious thigh injury and many of the top clubs who were apparently looking at him before soon lost interest.

Except Arsenal, of course (and Chelsea and Manchester United, if the report is to be believed).

The Express claims that the Gunners are set to make a £30m bid for the 21-year-old, which isn’t too far off what we were rumoured to have offered before. This seems unlikely, since he hasn’t been having the best time as of late. However, with the chances of Theo Walcott leaving this summer increasing and the noise surrounding us buying Raheem Sterling also dying down, there could potentially be a gap in the squad.

Despite having had a serious, long term injury, the kid is only 21 and it did seem as if there was genuine interest at one point. Arsene Wenger loves a project and now his value has decreased slightly, perhaps Wenger could seize the opportunity.

Schalke’s chairman, Clemens Tonnies, also didn’t seem too adamant that Draxler would stay, instead offering his support to the player and saying there are no immediate plans for him to leave.

“We have absolutely no thoughts about him leaving on short notice,” Tonnies said.

“Schalke is the place where he can develop best and I told him that in person. My opinion is also, that Julian has developed greatly, especially regarding his personality. He had a setback with his injury and, as with every big player at a young age, he had a weaker period. But Julian will have a fantastic career.”

Although I personally don’t see it happening, there have been more outlandish claims than this one.
