Mesut Ozil is one of the Premier League’s top playmakers but it turns out, his teammates aren’t quite on his level yet.

The alarming statistic that Mesut Ozil has created 130 chances, with only 14 of them being converted into goals shows two things. One, that Ozil is an unreal assist-machine, and two, we really need to be more clinical in front of goal.

Although our team haven’t exactly been poor, especially in the second half of the season, if one midfielder alone is creating that many chances and only 14 of them have been scored, we definitely need to work on that.

Saying that, since Ozil joined us in 2013, he’s featured 68 times and earned 23 assists (scoring 12 goals). That averages out to around an assist every three games, which, considering his injuries and then having to return to fitness and form, is pretty good going.

As the German playmaker’s confidence improves and our forwards become a bit more lethal, his assist rate might increase furthermore. Or, it’ll just become clear that Ozil is just on another planet and no one else can ever keep up with him, which is just as likely.
