After recent comments from ex-Arsenal forward Thierry Henry that Olivier Giroud isn’t good enough to help us win the league, Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas has spoken up and actually disagrees.

“I don’t think Wenger particularly wants or needs a new striker – we can win the league with Olivier Giroud,” he said, as reported by the Daily Star.

However, Nicholas thinks if we are to bring someone in, it should be someone along the lines of Villarreal forward, Luciano Vietto.

“But if we are to get one in, rather than go for a big name, I’d like to see us target Luciano Vietto, the young Argentinian lad at Villarreal,” the Arsenal legend explained. “He’s an Arsenal type of player – he’s all about good movement, but his touch is good too and I think we could get him at a good price. He might need a bit of time to adapt, but he’s got so much potential.”

The 21-year-old has featured 40 times this season for the La Liga club, who currently sit sixth in their table. In this time, he’s scored 18 goals and made six assists – an impressive turnaround (via WhoScored).

I have to say I completely agree with Charlie Nicholas. If we were to bring in another striker, going for a young but talented one would give us quality depth, without nudging Giroud, who’s worked so hard, out of the team.

Although we do have a couple of forwards out on loan, I’m not entirely convinced they’ll all be staying at the club. Therefore, looking at top reinforcements might be necessary.
