Per Mertesacker has revealed that the team don’t just want to win the FA Cup for the sake of winning a trophy, they also want to carry the confidence into next season.

Speaking to Arsenal Player, the BFG revealed just how important a win at Wembley will be for our next season.

“It would be great if we can achieve that, so we will do everything to give ourselves a good level of confidence,” the defender said.

Our giant centreback has quickly become a fan favourite since he joined the Gunners in 2011 and it turns out the feeling is entirely mutual. His love for the club and the fans alike is undeniable, and it’s great to have a player like him at the squad.

He hailed the fan’s support this season, especially when the chips were down.

“At times it was a difficult season for everyone, but the support throughout was absolutely fantastic and great and gave us a lift at some stages,” he said.

“We are absolutely delighted with our fans and appreciate their support very much. We want to finish strong, with three points to seal third spot and to have a good feeling for the FA Cup final. We also want to give the fans a good feeling for next season.”

On Sunday, Arsenal play their final match of the season at home to West Bromich Albion and only need a point to secure third place for sure.

Although, even a with a loss, it’d take an outstanding goal difference swing to allow Manchester United to move up from fourth.
