Aaron Ramsey was substituted with around 25 minutes of Arsenal’s game against Hull remaining.

Replaced by Jack Wilshere, making his first appearance since November when he was McNair’d, the English midfielder looked lively and immediately set about a driving run, overrunning the ball and taking a heavy challenge as is his way.

Ramsey was taken off after being unable to shake off the effects of a terrible tackle by midfield lump Tom Huddlestone, the former Spurs man going through the ball to ensure his studs raked down Ramsey’s leg, a foul that was at least a yellow card but which Lee Mason missed altogether (shock, horror).

Speaking after the game, Arsene Wenger gave an update on the pair.

“Jack Wilshere returned and had a good game in his 25 minutes so that is a big positive,” the boss said. “I’m not surprised how he played. I brought him on at 3-1 where it was not obvious.

“If I had any doubt I would not have brought him on. I said in the press conference on Friday that it’s the first week where he has found his acceleration in training. You could see that tonight. We still have to be patient. He has been out for five-and-a-half months.

“Aaron Ramsey got a big kick and that is swollen but it should not be too bad.”

Arsenal don’t play again until Monday night when they entertain Swansea, another ridiculous scheduling from Sky Sports who will make the Swans fans travel 187 miles for an 8pm weekday kickoff, the same distance Arsenal fans had to travel to Hull.
