Thierry Henry believes David de Gea should have won the Young Player of the Year this season rather than Harry Kane.
The Manchester United man has been integral to United this season and is a major part of the reason they look set to reclaim Champions League football.
Kane’s goals, on the other hand, have had very little effect on Tottenham’s season as they languish in sixth place, some ten points away from the Champions League spots and are set to enter their eighth year without a trophy (25 if you don’t count the league cup, which most people don’t).
Grabbing many of his goals against unknown sides in the Europa League and from the penalty spot, we here at Cannon Towers agree with Henry that the award should have went to a move worthy player.
As we’ve already shown, Kane isn’t even the best striker in North London, let alone the league, and while we could probably come up with a player or two to give it to through our Arsenal-tinted glasses (Hector Bellerin, anyone?), we can’t really argue with Henry saying the United man should have won it.
“He [de Gea] was my young player of the year,” the Arsenal legend said.
“Look at what he’s been doing for Manchester United this season.
“He has won so many points for the team and for that particular reason he was my young player of the year,” he added.
“As a goalkeeper it’s difficult to win points but he did.
“He kept Crystal Palace at bay and how many times have we seen it this season?”
