It was only a matter of time before Olivier Giroud heard about the comments from Thierry Henry regarding the striker’s quality responded.

Well now he has…and boy has he!

After the Chelsea match, Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit, Thierry Henry, made some comments about Giroud’s ability on the pitch. He said that the striker simply wasn’t good enough to help us win the league and that we needed a new one.

Since the comments have been made, everyone and their mums have had their say on the matter. Some believe the comments were fair, others believe they were unnecessary, while some maintain they lie somewhere in between.

However, the man himself, Olivier Giroud, had kept quiet. Until now.

Speaking to L’Equipe, the Frenchman said, “I heard he was saying too many dull things. That was a bomb and it had its desired effect.”

I doubt many of us need to have been in the room when he said this to know his reply wasn’t exactly affectionate.

Could there be an epic Giroud v Henry fight to the death on the horizon?

I wouldn’t want to comment on speculation, but Giroud continued on L’Equipe 21 on Thursday night:

“I didn’t enjoy hearing it. Coming from an ex-France and Arsenal striker, it’s a shame.

“It was a bit easy for him to say that after Chelsea game. We were doing well, unbeaten in 10, my stats were good. It hurt my pride.

“It was surprising to hear him take apart the team. I say ‘team’ because it wasn’t just me, it was the spine. I think he’s wrong.

“Maybe he was angry that I needed fewer games than him to score 50 goals for Arsenal.”

Smiling as he said it, we probably won’t be seeing the two of them battle it out on pay-per-view just yet.
