After signing for Arsenal in January, Gabriel has become a much more recognisable name.

His appearances for Arsenal have so far been limited to seven, with just four starts. Only against Everton, Newcastle, and Middlesbrough has he managed to complete 90 minutes.

Brazil manager, Dunga, named his preliminary 30-man squad for the Copa America tournament this summer and Gabriel didn’t make it despite receiving his first call-up for his country during the last international break.

Last week Dunga named his 23-man squad but seven players were added on Tuesday to make it up to 30, which will then be cut down again before the tournament begins.

Gabriel was called up and sat on the bench for the recent friendlies against France and Chile, and clearly didn’t do enough in training to force his way into Dunga’s plans.

Paris Saint-Germain trio David Luiz, Marquinhos, and Thiago Silva were included, along with Miranda of Atlético Madrid. All four have played at a high level for a while now and it is no shock to see them in ahead of Gabriel.

Corinthians centre-half Gil, 27 years-old, also got the call. Dunga handed him his first Seleção cap back in August. Now on three caps, he is clearly a little way ahead of Gabriel in the pecking order.

This does all mean that there is no danger of Brazil calling Gabriel up before the FA Cup Final takes place, and he will be available for Arsène Wenger on 30th May before he can have a rest this summer.
