Lose one on a free, bring one in on a free?

Keeps the universe perfectly balanced, right?

You know that a transfer window is about to spring into life because Arsenal are, once again, being linked with a move for Yoann Gourcuff who will be available on a free transfer this summer.

Despite attracting the attention of a number of clubs (10 according to his representative, Didier Poulmaire), Metro News in France are reporting that Arsenal are leading the chase. The only problem is that their reports regarding Arsenal’s interest is based on a report in Metro London.

Indeed.

Currently earning €450,000 per month (approx. £75k per week), he ticks a lot of Arsene Wenger’s boxes – wages, transfer fee, nationality and, most importantly at all, he’s an attacking midfielder.

Forever linked to the Gunners, it’s impossible to tell how much truth there is in Arsenal’s interest or if it’s just a case of wheeling him out because that’s what happens during a transfer window.

Looking certain to lose Tomas Rosicky to a free this summer, the Czech wanting more guaranteed playing time as he comes to the end of his career and looking like he’s set for a return to Sparta Prague, there will be a free spot in the squad and Arsenal should be looking for a replacement.

Rather worryingly, the French report hails Arsenal’s patience with Abou Diaby’s injuries as one reason that the club might be a great move for Gourcuff.

The 28 year-old has a lengthy history with injuries and has played just 810 minutes this season, making 17 appearances in Ligue 1 (nine starts), scoring four times and assisting three.

He has averaged 45 minutes per league game in 14/15 and injuries suffered this season include back (x2), malleolar (the bony bit that sticks out on the side of the ankle), and groin.

Sounds perfect, right?

Then again, Tom may not be going anywhere after all…
