Cesc Fabregas returned to Arsenal recently with Chelsea and received a rather odd reception.

As our very own Helen Trantum said, she found herself both clapping and booing the former captain as he left the pitch in the league match when he was substituted in the second half.

Taking the time to applaud all four corners of the ground, Fabregas had been the recipient of some boos early on in the match but there were few and far between and nothing like the reception the van Persie’s and Samir Nasri’s of this world have received.

In an interview with Sport, the Spaniard spoke about what it was like to return to Arsenal in the blue of their rivals.

“There was some [boos] at the beginning, but at the end of the game when I came off it was very nice. So that’s what I take from it. I just tried to take it as a normal day and play my game.

“It is difficult because obviously I know that I played there for many years. I know the pitch and the memories do come back to you, but you have to be professional and get the three points for your team. Well, that’s what I hoped for. As it turned out, the [0-0] draw was a very good result for us.”

The Arsenal fan base are still very divided over Fabregas with many appreciating him for what he did while at the club. Others, however, don’t like how he forced a move away from the club by reportedly going on strike.

Even here at Cannon Towers opinion is split.

It probably always will be.
