Mathieu Debuchy can probably count himself incredibly unlucky.

A series of nasty injuries have pretty much destroyed his whole season. Purchased as a replacement for Bacary Sagna who left to sit on Manchester City’s gilded bench, he still managed to play just 15 minutes fewer than his fellow Frenchman despite his three injuries.

Currently sidelined with a hamstring problem, Debuchy has been speaking to the official site about the increased levels of competition in the squad for the right-back position that is no longer guaranteed to be his.

Watching as Hector Bellerin grabbed his opportunity to shine with both feet has left him believing that this is the most intense competition he has faced.

“We have a lot of good players who can play at right back, I think of Hector and Calum. They have both done well this season,” he said.

“They are young and talented, with a huge potential to become very good players. They’ve proved so far this season that they have the qualities to be at Arsenal.

“We have a very good relationship between us, good affinities as with the rest of the team. We do some very good work in training, and it is always better to train in this environment. We’ve never had any problems between us.

“Arsenal is a big club and it is normal to be in competition with other players. This is how football works. I believe it makes everyone more competitive, and it is good for the club.”

It’s not quite clear when Debuchy is expected to be back and with just four games remaining in the season, time is running out for him to get back and seal his first season with the Gunners with an FA Cup winners medal. Hopefully.
