Arsenal sealed third place on the final day of the league season with a 4-1 thumping of Tony Pulis’s men.
A hattrick from Theo Walcott along with a doozy of a strike from Jack Wilshere ensured that the game was over as a contest by the break.
Knowing that they needed a point to guarantee third place rather than rely on goal difference, the Gunners duly obliged by picking up all three.
With United only managing a goalless draw with Hull in their final game, Arsenal finished five points ahead of the Mancs and ensured that they will not have to endure a Champions League qualifier in the summer.
The win also sealed £21.6m in Premier League prize money for the Gunners, or, to put it in ‘real people’ money, the cost of 21,600 season tickets prices at £1,000 each.
