Since January, Wojciech Szczęsny has lost his place in the first team to David Ospina and, with the summer transfer window upon us, goalkeeper is one position that most think Arsenal can improve.

There are very few top quality goalkeepers around, and even fewer are available. As a result Arsenal have frequently been linked with a move for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Cech has been on the bench for Chelsea this season with young Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois taking his place in goal. At 32 years-old it’s unlikely that Cech will be happy spending the next few years on the bench as his career begins to wind down.

Arsenal certainly could offer him first-team football, as well as the opportunity to remain in London and the Premier League.

However, Cech’s agent Viktor Kolar has said that talks are going on with Turkish club Besiktas.

“We have been in talks with Besiktas, we are in talks.

“Turkey is a choice for Cech but we will decide when the season is over.”

Turkey is a choice? At 32 he should have at least a couple of years left in him at the top level and this would be a strange decision as far as I’m concerned.

José Mourinho is unlikely to allow Cech a move to Arsenal, even though he says he is a special case. Strengthening the Arsenal squad would be an odd thing to do – remember that Mourinho wouldn’t even let us have Demba Ba on loan two years ago.

I think Cech is unlikely to be playing for us next season, but is equally unlikely to move out to Turkey to see out the last few years of his top level career.
