Arsenal’s Leah Williamson said she experienced ‘every emotion’ as she re-took the now-famous penalty for England’s u19 side to send them to the Euro finals in Israel.

During the game on Saturday, Williamson stepped up to take a penalty in injury-time which would have earned a vital point for England against Norway, but as she stroked the ball home, the referee blew for encroachment.

Rather than ordering a retake, the referee awarded a freekick to Norway and England lost the game.

The UEFA then ordered that the final seconds of the game, including the penalty, be replayed.

Stepping up again on Thursday, the Arsenal youngster held her nerve, scored the goal, sealed England’s place and then watched as the match was ended as Norway kicked off.

It was certainly a unique situation and one that could cause UEFA problems further down the road when other teams argue about game-changing wrong decisions by the officials.

None of that was of any concern, however, to Williamson.

“I have experienced every single emotion over the past 24 hours,” she said after the game.

“But it wasn’t about me, it was about the team. I know everyone says that, but it really was, and I have never felt calmer than when she blew that whistle.

“We had a job to do, we did the job and we took an opportunity that I would never have dreamed to be gifted.

“It’s incredible and my mum managed to change her flights home so she could stay and watch. That was really nice.”

Leah could be a outside pick for Mark Sampson ahead of the World Cup this summer, something we look at in more detail here.
