France Football have disclosed their annual player and manager pay ranking survey.

It should not come as a surprise that Arsene Wenger is one of the most well-paid managers in the world with a respectable fourth place in 2014. That should please him.

If we look at France Football’s ranking history, the highest paid manager does not change a lot through the years:

  • 2013 Mourinho
  • 2012 Mourinho
  • 2011 Mourinho
  • 2010 Mourinho
  • 2009 Scolari
  • 2008 Mourinho
  • 2007 Mourinho
  • 2006 Mourinho
  • 2005 Mourinho
  • 2004 Ferguson

Here is this year’s top 10

10. David Moyes 51 years old (€7m/£5m Real Sociedad)

10. Laurent Blanc 49 years old (€7m/£5m Paris St Germain)

9. Jurgen Klopp  47 years old (€7.2m/£5.2m Borussia Dortmund)

8. Sven Goran Eriksson 67 years old (€8m/£5.8m Shanghai SIPG)

7. Andre Villas-Boas 37 years old (€8.5m/£6.12m Zenith St Petersburg)

6. Fabio Capello 68 years old (€9m/£6.5m Russia)

5. Louis Van Gaal 63 years old (€10m/£7.2m Manchester United)

4. Arsene Wenger 65 years old (€11.3m/£8.14m Arsenal)

3. Pep Guardiola 44 years old (€15.2m/£11m FC Bayern)

2. Carlo Ancellotti 55 years old (€15.5m/£11.16m Real Madrid)

1. Jose Mourinho 52 years old (€18m/£13m Chelsea)

There is no surprise to see The Special One as the best paid football manager in the world.

His current wages are said to be around €11.6m and an extension to his contract worth €14m/£10m is on the table. His win bonuses are thought to be around €0.4m and his sponsorship deals around €6m per year are putting him at €18m in total for the year.

Arsene Wenger has been in the top 20 best paid managers since France Football started their ranking back in 2004.

His Fourth place in 2015 is his highest place on the list, tied with his position in the 2005 edition.

He is thought to be earning €11.1m/£8.14m per year following his contract extension to 2017 that was signed last summer.

Wenger also earns a little bit of money via his media work for the Qatari company Al-Jazeera while his previous contact as the pundit for the France National team games with TF1, the main French TV channel has not been renewed.

It is a shame because, he used to disclose tidbits of informations about the Arsenal during those games that would never appear in the British media.

It is interesting to note that the Premier League attraction for players searching big wages also exists for  the football managers.

Three out of the top five  managers are currently working in England and we can also note that out of the top ten managers, two have managed the England team and command serious wages while six are managing or have managed in England in the past.

The Premier League is clearly seen as a place where you can earn big money and with the latest TV deal bringing in billions more, this is not likely to change.
