Arsene Wenger bleives Danny Welbeck has matured a lot since arriving at the club in the summer.

The former Manchester United man scored for England during the international break, moving clear as the leading goalscorer in Euro qualifying before picking up a knee injury that could force him out of the game against Liverpool on Saturday.

Facing a late fitness test, Welbeck has already cemented himelf as a real fans favourite due to his hard work and winning goal at Old Trafford in the FA Cup and the Arsenal boss believes he is showing much more promise than when he first arrived.

“I think he’s an important player who contributes a lot,”
Wenger said at his pre-Liverpool press conference. “Not only does he now score goals, but as well contributes a lot to the team work.

“He’s a team player and I believe technically he has improved a lot. When you look at him now I believe that technically he is much more mature, more composed in front of goal, the quality of his runs is getting better and he has huge, huge attributes.”

Wenger was also quick to knock down any perceived Harry Kane threat to the Arsenal man’s England place as he added “Kane played one game and it’s good for England to have many options and to choose the best one.”

“Welbeck until now has always been the chosen best one and I don’t see how, after Friday night, Roy Hodgson could change his mind.”
