Post-Burnley, Arsene Wenger admits he never could have predicted Arsenal’s current run of form.

Arsenal secured their eighth victory on the bounce away to Burnley this weekend, ensuring we hold on to second place in the league, seven points behind Chelsea. However, even the longest serving manager in the Premier League couldn’t have predicted this run of form.

I always hope to get the best out of my team, but no manager in the world if he is serious can predict a run like this,Wenger said.

The manager is also cautious to not take all the credit for the longest string of wins since the Invincibles era, saying, “It’s down to the quality of the attitude of the team, the quality of the spirit we have in the side.” He added, We prepare [well], we prepare and contribute to our success, that is for sure.”

Wenger was also quick to point out the injury problems we have early on, a fact many seem to have conveniently forgotten since he hit our stride.

What people forgot is that we had big players out for four months this season. Six or seven players from the squad completely out. So that made a big difference.” He went on to highlight, “And big players like Koscielny, like Ozil, like Giroud have been out four months in the season – four months the three together!

The boss then proceeded to acknowledge the depth and ‘balance’ we now have in the team, luxuries we haven’t had for a long time, saying:

We have a better balance in the team and some players have made it like Coquelin, who contributes to the balance of the team. Hector Bellerin as well has come into the team… I have a quality bench and we even have quality players at home like Chamberlain, Arteta, Wilshere. I didn’t even try [to play] Debuchy.”

He finished by playfully adding, We have a big squad and I think we have quality. Let’s see how we finish the season and after see how we do next season.

Arsenal face league leaders Chelsea at home in just under two weeks’ time – ‘let’s see’ indeed, Arsene.
