At his press conference after the Liverpool game, Arsene Wenger was asked about Raheem Sterling.

With the player suffering from a touch of the ‘Walcotts‘ when it comes to his contract, Arsenal have been linked with the young player who, according to Brendan Rodgers was ‘outstanding‘ against Arsenal but according to my eyes was pretty average.

Wenger, who previously said he wouldn’t disrespect Liverpool by talking about one of their players, was rather more evasive this time around although I wouldn’t go reading too much into what he said (or, in this case, didn’t say).

You know Arsene, he lies constantly when it comes to transfer targets.

If he wants us to believe that he could be interested in Sterling, he likely has another reason – like giving Theo a kick up the arse in regards to his own contract saga.

“We have been linked by the media [with Sterling],” Wenger said.

“At the moment we are not in a transfer period at all.

“We are focused on Burnley next week and we have plenty of offensive players. If you look at who we had on the bench, we had Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck who did not start the game.”

Plenty of offensive players you say, Arsene? Almost as if he doesn’t collect attacking players for fun.
