Arsenal ladies defeated Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday to move three points clear of the Blues.

Arsenal’s goal was scored by Chioma Ubogagu in the 35th minute, celebrating her first start for the Gunners by getting onto the end of Vicky Losada’s pass.

Ubogagu signed for Arsenal in February.

The win means that Arsenal have now won two and drawn one of their first three league games this season, recovering well from their slow start against Notts County in the opening game.

City were reduced to ten players in the second half when midfielder, Jill Scott, was sent off for an off-the-ball incident with Jade Bailey, leaving them with more than 30 minutes to play without the full complement of players.

The result also moves Arsenal into second place in the league and into the Champions League places, two points behind leaders Chelsea who are on nine points.
