Enjoying his best season at the club, a new deal is on the way for Nacho.

According to reports in the Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal and Spanish international left-back Nacho Monreal are close to finalising terms on a new contract, that will see the 29-year-old fullback commit his future at the club until 2019.

The new deal will also raise Monreal’s pay from £50,000 a week, to £65,000.

The deal is being hailed as a reward for both Monreal’s performances at left-back during the season, during which he has become first choice ahead of Kieran Gibbs, and for his versatility as an auxiliary centre-back, a role he filled during the early stages of the season whilst Laurent Koscielny recovered from an Achilles ailment.

Monreal has been a solid performer for Arsenal since signing for the club in a deadline-day deal in January 2013, when the club were forced to hurriedly sign a stand-in for Gibbs, who had just injured his ankle the week before.

As last-minute purchases go, it’s safe to say that Monreal has proved himself to be more than just a panic buy.
