Empoli’s defender, Daniele Rugani, has revealed that Arsenal want him.

But, sadly, he wants to go to Juventus, the club he has supported since he was a kid and who own his registration.

Speaking to the media in Italy, Rugani said “It’s gratifying to know that Wenger is interested in me, but I’m glad that Juve has redeemed me.”

On loan with Empoli from Juve, the Old Lady purchased the remainder of Rugani’s rights at the start of February although he will remain with the Tuscan side until the end of the season.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old centreback for a few months now and what we can take from the news that they’ve been in contact with the Italian is that Arsenal are in the market for another central defender.

Signing Gabriel in January, who was brought to the club to become a starter alongside Laurent Koscielny, another arrival would not necessarily spell the end for the BFG as Wenger has repeatedly said that he believes a top club should have four players for that position.

The number at the club currently all depends on what position the manager envisages for Calum Chambers although that is more likely to be as a defensive midfielder or right-back than in the centre where he has struggled.
