Calum Chambers has hailed Arsene Wenger, saying the Arsenal manager has ‘exceeded all expectations’ since he arrived.

The former Southampton youngster was signed in the summer in a move that was slightly unexpected. After just one season in the Southampton first-team, Calum had done enough with his handful of appearances to convince Arsenal that they should shell out £16m for him.

Thrown straight into the starting lineup and shifted all around the pitch due to the injury crisis, he adapted well and you could say exceeded expectations himself.

“He’s [Wenger] been fantastic to me – really supportive and he’s given me an opportunity to show everyone what I can do and opportunities to play games,” Chambers told Arsenal Player.

“I’m very grateful for what he’s done for me.

“Everyone has expectations on things but he’s exceeded all expectations that I had. He has been amazing for me and I can’t thank him enough.

“I think he’s very thoughtful in everything he does. He gives everyone a chance and he gets the best out of all the players, which is a very good quality to have.”

With the emergence of Hector Bellerin at right-back, Wenger has been afforded the luxury of taking some of the pressure off the Englishman who could be adapted to play defensive midfield as his career progresses.

Wherever he ends up on the pitch, one thing’s for sure – he has a very bright future ahead of him with the club.
