Olivier Giroud is the most potent striker in the Premier League.

Not Harry Kane.

Not Diego Costa.

Olivier Giroud.

To regular readers of this site, this should not be news as only last week we brought you the proof that the Arsenal man was better than Kane despite the disparity in how both have been treated by the media.

Spending three months on the sidelines with a broken leg seems only to have sharpened his focus and he now leads the way in the goals-per-90-minutes category.

While Costa is hot on the Frenchman’s heels, Kane is some distance back when you discount penalties, something Kane takes and Giroud doesn’t. In fact, Kane isn’t even third on the list with Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse given that honour.

GPM Ratio:

  • Olivier Giroud 0.87 per 90 minutes
  • Diego Costa 0.84
  • Papiss Cisse 0.82
  • Harry Kane 0.73
  • Frank Lampard 0.69

Based on players who have scored five or more goals in the league, Kane is significantly less godlike when his league cup, Europa League and penalties are removed from the equation, something we’ve been saying around here at Cannon Towers for some time now.

Will that stop Kane being presented with the Player of the Season award?

Probably not.

There’s no accounting for idiots.
