Gedion Zelalem is a wanted man.

Boy.

Whatever.

Coveted by both the Germans and the Americans, the 18-year-old has a major decision to make about his future – all before he’s even appeared in the senior team for anything more than a pre-season friendly.

Completing the process to become a US citizen, it had been expected that the midfielder would pledge his international allegiance to the States however he has been handed a recent call-up from Germany for him to join the u18 team, an invitation he has declined in the past.

The matches for which he has been called up for take place on March 27th and March 30th and while playing for the u18’s would not rule him out of pledging his future the US senior team it would certainly seem to be contrary to the popular option that he is merely waiting on FIFA clearance before opting to make his declaration.

The call must surely be a tricky one for the youngster.

With no disrespect to the US, pledging for Germany would mean a greater chance of winning things but most likely a harder path into the team itself.

While it seems like he has already made his mind up, nothing is final in football until it’s announced and Germany are likely to keep tempting him until he makes his final declaration.
