Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League after leaving themselves with too much to do from the first leg debacle.

Despite winning the second in Monaco 2-0 thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey, they were not able to get the third goal that was needed to ensure their progression however they will take heart for the rest of the season in their ability to score two past a Monaco side that apparently never concedes a goal, ever.

Given the number of chances Arsenal fashioned over the two legs, you really do have to wonder how that could be.

And that’s the story of the two games – missed chances from Arsenal who had more than enough to win this tie twice over.

Dominating the entire 90 minutes, Arsenal go out with their heads, once again, held high after a strong second leg showing but lessons must seriously be learned from the first leg disasters that we repeatedly witness.

Had Arsenal taken just one tenth of their chances in the first leg they would now be going into the quarter final draw.

As it is, they are travelling home after collecting another ‘heroic failure badge.’
