Another day, another Dortmund player linked…

Unless you have been living under a footballing rock, you’ll know that Dortmund have had a few issues this year. And by a few issues, I mean that up until recently everything was going horribly wrong for them.

Now with Champions League football looking very unlikely for Dortmund next season, their players have started to be linked with moves away from the club.

Reus, Gundogan, Bender, Hummels, Subotic and Grosskreutz have all been linked with moves to Arsenal in recent weeks and months as the media attempt to dismantle the star studded, yet under performing, team.

Not to be content with already linking Arsenal with half of the Dortmund squad, reports in Spain (picked up here via the Metro and spreading to others) have now linked Arsenal with Dortmund’s 26-year-old Armenian playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Now before you say anything, I know that Arsenal don’t need another attacking midfielder, but according to the reports, Arsenal are drawing up a list of targets in case Santi Cazorla leaves the club in the summer (a list which in theory yesterday’s linkee Roberto Firmino is on as well) and if that’s the logic then it’s pretty sound.

Mkhitaryan doesn’t have the best record this season (very few Dortmund players do), but before this season began he had a very impressive record for Dortmund and his previous clubs averaging a goal every three games and an assist every five.

Importantly, Mkhhitaryan would also be able to adapt very quickly to the style of football Arsenal play as Dortmund play in a similar way and he can also play on either flank as well as through the middle.

The reports also suggest that he would be available for around £20m, which would obviously be very affordable for Arsenal. He has however said that he is happy to stay and fight for the club. Whether that is for show or not is anyone’s guess, but Dortmund won’t let him go without a fight (if at all).

As far as options go though, Mkhitaryan seems like he could be a great option should Cazorla look to leave at the end of the season.

Liverpool have also been linked with the Dortmund star.
