Newcastle’s manager John Carver believes his side need no extra motivation for the visit of Arsenal this weekend.

Enduring somewhat inconsistent form this season, the Magpies will be hoping to capitalise on any Champions League hangover suffered by Arsenal while the Gunners will be looking to get the misery out of their system by continuing their great run.

All sounds like it is set up to be a cracking match as games between these two sides tend to be.

Speaking to the press, Carver said

“You know what our group of players are like. They don’t need to be motivated for Arsenal at home.”

Arsenal go into the game on the back of seven straight domestic wins and even though they lost on aggregate on Tuesday night, they still won the game against Monaco taking their winning sequence to five in all competitions.

In fact, since the defeat on New Year’s Day, Arsenal have played 15 and won 13 of those games, the only disappointments coming in the north London derby and in the first leg against Monaco.

Newcastle, in contrast, who sit in 11th place in the table, are 16th in the Premier League form guide having won only one of their last six games, losing there of them.
