Lukas Podolski has been voted one of the worst signings in Serie A.

The German, who was sent out on loan in January had struggled for game time at Arsenal with many blaming Arsene Wenger for failing to use the forward correctly.

Unable to convince these people that it was Podolski’s own performances that were the reason for him not getting in the side, the loan has proven what many others have been saying since he arrived – that he just doesn’t do enough.

Sure, he scores great goals but he doesn’t score enough of them to warrant his place in the side given the lack of contribution he makes in other areas of the pitch.

Roberto Mancini recently commented that the German needed to do more, a sentiment long echoed by many Gooners.

Now a poll, that appeared in Gazetta dello Sport, has Podolski in second place on a list of the worst January signings with 36% of the vote and only Alessio Cerci ahead of him. Third placed Seydou Doumbia had only 9% of the vote.

Taken off after only an hour against Fiorentina, Podolski has rarely played 90 minutes for Inter and after the defeat against La Viola, Mancini said

“Seeing how Shaqiri played, which effectively changed the game, I regret not playing him from the start.

“Podolski? Obviously he is someone who must give more, and we are sure that he can give us more.

“Because at the moment, it’s not enough.”

It’s hard to see the hashtag addict back at Arsenal next season even though he will still have one year left on his current contract.

Where does he go from here?

Perhaps back to FC Koln.
