Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been called up by England’s u18 side for their games against Switzerland.

Set to be included in the squad for the friendly games which take place on March 26th and 28th, the 17-year-old midfielder is a product of Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, joining the club when he was just six-years-old.

Making three senior appearances for Arsenal, bizarrely in all competitions except the league cup, his debut came he replaced Aaron Ramsey against Galatsaray in the Champions League when he was just 102 days past his 17th birthday. He followed this up with a Premier League debut four days later against this weekend’s opponents, Newcastle United.

A frequent member of the Arsenal u21 side, Maitland-Niles has two goals in his 13 appearances for them this season.

According to TransferMarkt he is out of contract in the summer however given he only signed his first professional contract with the club in October, that seems highly unlikely.

The England game against Switzerland will take place behind closed doors with the second game against the same side taking place at Banks’ Stadium, home of Walsall, two days later.

He will be part of a 20-man squad and has already features for England at this level twice before, managing to find the net once.
