We’ve been talking about Jon Toral a lot on this site recently.

There’s good reason.

After struggling with a succession of injuries since signing for Arsenal, problems caused by a genetic defect with the meniscus in both his knees, Toral has had to undergo four operations in four years.

Now injury free, the midfielder has his eyes set on a new Arsenal deal and his hattrick against Blackpool couldn’t have come at a better time.

Just before the game, Arsene Wenger reportedly spoke with Brentford’s manager, Mark Warburton, to enquire about how Toral is getting on and if he is capable of playing in the Premier League.

Warbuton, the Mail report, had no hesitation in saying that he would be.

The Bee’s manager added

‘He’s had a fantastic footballing education.

‘He continued that at Arsenal.

‘He’s come from a great crop of players. He is a tremendous talent. He is young and hungry and wants to play at the highest level possible. He’s very talented. I’m delighted to have him around.’

Toral is currently on loan with Brentford for the season and while he initially struggled to get into the starting lineup, he is now starting to shine with three goals and one assist in his last two games, only one of which he started.

With Wenger enquiring about him, Warburton praising him, and Toral doing his part on the pitch, it’s hard to see Arsenal refusing the option to extend his contract.
