Arsenal have safeguarded Le Coq.

Out of contract in the summer, it looked for a long time that the Frenchman’s seven years as an Arsenal player were coming to an end but, after impressing hugely since his recall from Charlton, he has earned himself a new deal.

The French report claims that he has signed a four-year deal while reports earlier in the week claimed that his wages would increase from £50,000 per month to £50,000 per week which is the sort of payrise most of us can only dream about.

Now it will be up to Le Coq to show that he wasn’t just suffering from ‘Flamini syndrome’ and playing well in order to get a new deal or put himself in the shop window.

Many remember Flamini’s last season with Arsenal during his first spell with the club but are only now being reminded of the years that went before which saw Arsenal try and ship him off to Birmingham.

[UPDATE – After this was written Arsenal confirmed the deal on the official site with Wenger saying

“The second was also to extend the contracts of Coquelin and Akpom. That’s what I did as well so we are very happy with what we did.”

They did not provide any deal details.]
