David Ospina kept his first clean sheet for Arsenal on Sunday against hull.

Stepping in for Wojciech Szczesny, the Colombian was making only his third appearance for the Gunners since his arrival in the summer.

Speaking before the game, Arsene Wenger revealed that the reason he hasn’t played more, as we all knew, was because he was injured.

Wenger said:

‘David had a difficult start to the season.

‘When I speak about post-World Cup trauma, he is a big example, because he got injured during the World Cup and came back injured.

‘Because he came to a new club, he wanted to get back fit as quickly as possible and got injured again.’

With John Jensen making claims that Szczesny landed himself in massive trouble with Wenger for something he said or did in the changing room after the game against Southampton on New Year’s day, we could see Ospina handed an extended run in the side.

While there are not too many details available it is believed that Woj was fined and him acting like a total numpty would go some way to explaining why Wenger was so obviously furious with him after the game.

Wenger was full of praise for the Colombian, adding before the game against Hull:

‘I believe he is a great goalkeeper with a good understanding of the game and fantastic reflexes.

‘He displayed that when he came on against Galatasaray at home in October. He made some fantastic saves and I think he has a great future.’

Arsenal have been linked with a number of goalkeepers but it’s hard to see the club splashing out on another when they only purchased Ospina a few months ago.

As for the rumours surrounding Szczesny I’m sure time will tell but when you think about how Wenger sidelined Jens Lehmann and stuck with Manuel Almunia, you wouldn’t bet on the Pole coming out on top if he has angered Wenegr as much as is being claimed.
