Lukas Podolski was absent from Arsenal’s squad for their game against Southampton with a tight groin.

The German has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates in January with Inter Milan leading the chase.

With the Daily Mirror reporting that the player had thrown a strop and the player himself issuing a strong denial, the speculation has refused to die down.

Speaking to the media after the debacle at St Mary’s, Wenger was asked about Podolski and he was quite clear on his thoughts regarding the matter and Inter’s first offer.

Wenger said

The first proposal was farcical. After, when they come back a bit more seriously, then you will see what happens now.

Although this story keeps swinging back and forth it does seem more likely that Podolski will be leaving Arsenal sooner rather than later.

With Yaya Sanogo also seemingly set for a loan deal and Joel Campbell unable to get a game ahead of youngster Chuba Akpom, you do have to wonder if Wenger has something up his sleeve with what he plans for the forward positions.

I wouldn’t count on it.
