Sunday’s game against Brighton in the FA cup is almost upon us.

In addition to our extensive pre-match coverage of the game, we’ve gotten our writers together for a short prediction on how they think the game will pan out.

And if you think we’re just going to throw these predictions out there and then forget about them, fear not. On Monday we’ll be back taking a look at how we did and laughing at the person who got it wrong more than anyone else.

Lee Hurley Win 3-1

After the euphoria of last week’s win against Manchester City, I’m hoping the team have reached a new level of self-belief that can make this game a little easier than it was this time two years ago.

Brighton won’t be in any mood to just roll over so Arsenal are going to have to work for their win but, in the end, Arsenal will have too much for the Seagulls and I expect a relatively straightforward win.

That being said, as we’ve kept a cleansheet in our last four games, we are well overdue to concede. With added calamity.

Prediction: Arsenal to win 3-1 with little drama.

Helen Trantum Win 3-1

I’m expecting an Arsenal side with significant rotation, albeit with great quality coming in as a number of players continue their comebacks from injury.
Brighton gave us a run for our money two years ago with a late deflected goal from Walcott and a defensive goalmouth scramble to thank for our victory down at the Amex.

Teixeira had a big impact in their midweek clash and will be one to watch out for. However, having given my backing to the Walcott-Ozil combination, I can only see an Arsenal win as long as Theo’s packed his shooting boots.

Prediction: 3-1 Arsenal – Walcott (2) and Akpom – with a misunderstanding at the back for their goal.

Stephen Bradley Win 3-0

After Man United couldn’t get past Cambridge on Friday night, it should be the perfect reminder of how anything can happen if a team turns up lacking any proper motivation and it’s very easy to fear the worst.

However (JINX ALERT!) Arsenal are in good form right now, and if there are changes to the team that beat Man City last week, then there’s no better chance for the likes of Özil and Walcott to show that they’re too good to keep on the bench.

Prediction: A boring, professional 3-0 win for Arsenal.

Paul Williams Win 3-1

Don’t know anywhere near enough about Brighton to make an informed prediction. That said, with a couple of obvious exceptions aside, our records against lower league opposition under Arsène is excellent. I fully expect Arsenal to maintain the feelgood factor from last week’s win in Manchester.

Prediction: 3-1

Sylvain Jamet Win 5-1

The team is full of confidence.

It is the right time for squad rotation and a chance to give a game to those who are coming back from injury and others lacking game time and those players are more than good enough to beat Brighton.

With an early goal I can see a 5-1 win. As usual, a strong and fair referee will be needed

Prediction: Arsenal to win 5-1.

Lewis Ambrose Win 2-0

With Mesut and Theo back and starting together I can’t wait for this one (as you could probably tell from my match preview).

I’m hoping for great performances from the pair of them and a really professional performance all-round.

A comfortable win with a first Walcott goal in over a year would be the just splendid.

Prediction: Brighton & Hove Albion 0-2 Arsenal.

Nia Griffiths Win 3-1

It’s fair to say I’m feeling pretty confident about the away match against Brighton on Sunday, which I don’t say all too often.

The last time we faced them in 2013, the game was pretty tight but we were both two completely different teams then. With the help of Gus Poyet, the Seagulls were flying high (hah-hah) and thought to be promotion contenders, while we were ‘enjoying’ a mixture of decent and not-so-decent displays on the pitch.

Regardless, we managed to scrape a win in the 85th minute.

This time, we have our German playmaker Ozil set to start and we’re coming off the back of a huge win at Manchester City last week.

Brighton, on the other hand, despite winning their last match against Ipswich (3-2), are currently sitting 19th in the Championship and aren’t looking too sharp. I do think having the crowd behind them will encourage them to press and perhaps get a sloppy goal, which will probably be our own fault.

However, I still predict a comfortable win for the Arsenal.

Prediction: Arsenal to win 3-1.

Andi Foster Win 2-1

Given Arsenal’s sketchy form this season and ability to make everything harder than it needs to be – this game has the potential to be more complicated than the teams on paper would suggest.

Yes, Arsenal had a great result against City and yes, the squad will be rotated, to an extent, but this game could well be a massive banana skin.

Arsenal have faltered in games following good results too many times this season – and this game might not be as straight forward as many think.

Prediction: A hard fought 2-1 win.

Sean Ferguson Win 3-0

We’re on a good run and confidence will be high after the win at the Etihad.

Even with some rotation we will still have Walcott, Rosicky and Ozil starting who can all make the difference. It’ll be interesting to see who starts in goal but whoever it is will have a point to prove.

We should easily beat Brighton so I’m going to go for 3-0 with Walcott getting back on the scoresheet… and hopefully a home draw v Cambridge in the next round!

Prediction: An easy 3-0 win

Alan Knowles-Best Win 5-0

Arsene showed us just what he’s capable of with his tactical genius away at the Etihad last weekend and I’m expecting more of the same on Sunday as he selects an XI strong enough to beat an in-form Brighton while affording rests for some key players.

Brighton’s striker has only one goal all season so I’m backing a clean sheet and can also see Akpom demonstrating why Wenger is such a fan.

Prediction: 0-5 with an Akpom hattrick

Winnie O’Blindt Win 2-1

Brighton sit 34 places below us in the footballing pyramid, so frankly there’s no excuse for not putting them to bed with a flea in their ear.

I’d be shocked to see the likes of Cazorla and Alexis anywhere near the bench let alone the team since if we can’t rest them for this type of game then they’ll play every game between now and their inevitable injuries.

Still, these are the kind of games where, unless we get an early goal, we tend to make really hard work of things, so I reckon we’ll probably go behind, equalise and then it’s touch and go as to whether we get that all important odd goal in three.

Prediction: We cannot afford a replay here with games coming thick and fast – all or nothing for a late goal, 2-1 win.

Check back 26 hours after kick-off when we will assess our predictions!
