Arsenal and Wolves have agreed a fee for Benik Afobe.

The Arsenal youngster, who has been on loan with MK Dons, is out of contract with Arsenal this summer and this window represents the last chance for Arsenal to get a fee for the player they’ve had on their books since he was six.

Kenny Jackett, the manager of Wolves, told his club’s official website after his side’s game against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday

“We have agreed a fee with Arsenal for Benik Afobe and he is in the process of completing his medical this weekend.

“We will see how discussions go and hopefully we can close the deal early in the week.”

While speaking to the media after the game, he also said

“He is a player I have followed for many years and has been brought up at a very good club and has the pace, power and goalscoring record that we need.

“He will help us in the second half of this season and the years to come. Like a lot of our players, I am sure he will be keen to prove himself in the Championship and we feel we will be getting him at a very good time.”

Afobe underwent a medical with the West Midland’s side on Sunday and presuming there was nothing wrong with his knees, the transfer should be confirmed in a matter of days, probably by Wolves as Arsenal are ridiculously slow at this sort of thing.

It’s sad to see Afobe leave the club. As a true Arsenal kid you want nothing more than for them to be able to make the grade at the club that has been their life.

But, sadly, it seems as though a series of injuries have scuppered Benik’s Arsenal chances.

Still only 21, he has the rest of his career just waiting for him.

Here’s hoping it’s a good one.
