Joel Campbell was granted a rare start for Arsenal on Sunday against Hull in the FA Cup.

Impressing and showing clear signs of improvement, the Costa Rican could have got himself on the scoresheet but for some wayward finishing.

Speaking to Nacion, a website from his home country, the forward said about his performance:

It was a good game, I felt fine.

Obviously it’s not easy after a long time of not playing to perform as one wants. I feel I did the best I could; the truth is that after the game all my teammates told me I had a good game and that motivates me.

I had an important chance to score. The move was a nice combination with Alexis, but it did not go as it needed. But hey, is this football, there will be other times.

Today (Sunday) I did well, I’m happy for that. But I also know that I can give more, but that is only achieved with playing time and minutes you are on the pitch.

Yes, I have to be play more regularly, have more confidence. But I go quiet with the work I did, because I think I contributed defensively too.

Arsenal are a team that always attacks, but in European football one always has to have that balance.

I always try to raise my hands in the short or long time to give the ball to me. In this game I gave everything on the pitch and that’s good.

It was a difficult game because Hull are a Premier League team and not easy. Actually we had many chances to score and settle the game, but that was complicated. At the end, the goal from Alexis helped us stay calm.

I just dedicate myself to train, right now I am at Arsenal and I focus on this. Only God knows the future and I just leave that to him.

I’m working hard every day, today (Sunday) I got the chance and now I  must continue working to give me another chance.

The player is certainly attracting attention from a number of clubs despite rarely featuring. David Moyes is keen to bring him to Real Sociedad although they feel Arsenal are reluctant to let him go, especially after sending Lukas Podolski to Inter Milan and looking like they will be farming out Yaya Sanogo.

It has also been reported that Arsenal could be about to offer Campbell a new contract.
