After letting three forwards leave on loan Arsenal are linked with a move, once again, for Roma’s Mattia Destro.

That is, if you believe the Daily Star.

Who got their reports from Spain.

The 23-year-old forward would cost Arsenal £15m but quite how reliable a report from Spain can be about an Italian player moving to an English club is hard to tell.

Arsenal have four strikers at the club – Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, Alexis Sanchez and Chuba Akpom – and with the latter stalling on a new deal, it’s hard to see how Arsenal can expect him to spurn offers from the likes of Borussia Dortmund when they bring in another player ahead of him.

Of course, the club could already be resigned to losing the youngster who has been at Arsenal since he was six years old and as he starts to show signs of impatience with his place in the pecking order, perhaps Arsenal are looking to replace him.

If that’s the case, it’s unlikely a move for a player in January would be the way they go about it. Fees are artificially inflated at this time of the year and if Akpom is going in the summer, that would be the ideal time to replace him.

Let’s not forget, the club also have Yaya Sanogo to come back, a player Wenger rates highly and who will return with some significant Premier League experience under his belt.

Arsenal were reportedly in talks with Destro back in December and this doesn’t seem to be a story that looks like dying any time soon.
